Every Detail is Intentional
When Brita India approached Studio ABD, they brought a product with exceptional German water filtration engineering and a design language built for European kitchens. The challenge was precise: translate that engineering intelligence into a product that belongs on the Indian kitchen counter — a surface that is smaller, busier, hotter, and more visually alive than anything in a European design brief. Studio ABD's approach began with observation. Hours spent in Indian homes, watching how families actually interact with appliances: with wet hands, in dim light, across age groups, and across literacy levels. The brief evolved from 'design a water purifier' to 'design a product that an Indian family can operate with confidence in any situation.'
Designed Around Indian Home Realities
The MyPure's interface architecture separates three states — working, alert, and emergency — with unambiguous visual clarity. No manual required. No training needed. A grandmother and a ten-year-old can both read it correctly in under three seconds, which is exactly the standard an Indian product design studio must hold itself to. Beyond the interface, the form was designed for counter placement in compact kitchen layouts, with a footprint and height calibrated against real kitchen data from across Indian cities. Structural ergonomics, surface cleanability, and the weight of the full unit were all tested against Indian home conditions — high humidity, cooking vapour, and the reality that kitchen appliances get wiped, bumped, and occasionally dropped.
What the Client Said
The result was a product that felt, in the words of Hartmut Wolf, CEO of Brita India, like something the team "didn't know they needed until Studio ABD pointed it out." That is the highest compliment a product design consultancy in Bangalore can receive — not that the client liked the design, but that the design revealed a possibility the client hadn't imagined. The MyPure went on to set a new standard for what a German-engineered, Indian-designed water purifier could look and feel like: rigorous in its function, elegant in its presence, and unmistakably designed for the home it lives in.
